GX Group has announced plans to establish India’s first research and development centre dedicated to designing photonic chips, aiming to tap a rapidly expanding domestic data centre and telecom market.
The company will invest ₹500 crore in the facility, which is likely to be located in Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh or Andhra Pradesh.
The chips, which are critical components for high-performance data centres by enabling faster and energy-efficient data transmission, will be designed in India and manufactured in the Netherlands. GX Group is targeting an annual production capacity of 3 million chips.
The company estimates India’s data centre capacity to surge to 5 GW by 2030, with a potential market size of $50 billion. It plans to roll out its photonic chips for commercial use by April 2026.
