A police incident is unfolding on the M5 in Devon this evening.

It's happened on the northbound side of the motorway, between junctions 29 and 28.

The nature of the incident is currently unclear, but pictures sent to Devon Live show long traffic queues forming.

National Highways confirmed the M5 is closed in the area: "The #M5 in #Exeter is closed northbound between J29 #ExeterAirport and J28 #Cullompton due to a police led incident.

"More information to follow, thank you for your patience."

Traffic monitoring site Inrix reports: "M5 Northbound blocked, slow traffic due to police incident between J29 A30 Honiton Road (Exeter / Honiton) and J28 A373 Honiton Road (Cullompton / Service Area)."
