To dispose of natural Halloween decorations such as pumpkins and gourds, the Santa Maria Utilities Department will host their Pumpkin Smashing Event Nov. 2, allowing the community to turn their Halloween waste into soil-enriching compost, while reducing greenhouse gases.

The event will be hosted at the parking lot of Rotary Centennial Park from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 2, after being held at the Santa Maria Town Center in previous years.
Participants may bring any size and number of pumpkins and gourds and throw them into a collection bin provided by Engel & Gray/ Harvest Blend Compost.
Multiple targets and pumpkin bowling will also be available
