North Saanich writer Meg Todd has released her debut novel, Most Grievous Fault , which explores themes of marginalization, motherhood, the complexities of the social welfare system, and “the growing cracks in the social safety net that are evident in both small towns and big cities throughout Canada.”

The novel, released Oct. 7, tells the story of 29-year-old Crystal Constantine, a struggling single mother, as she grapples with her past and her relationship with her daughter, Becky, who is facing her own challenges.

The mother-daughter dynamic in the novel illustrates the complexities of love and trauma, emphasizing the cyclical nature of dysfunction in relationships.
