VANCOUVER – A traffic detour will be in place for about four months on Vancouver’s busy Broadway corridor starting in the new year as crews work to reinstall utilities and rebuild the route where a subway extension is under construction.
The B.C. government says in a statement that five temporary traffic decks were installed between Main and Quebec streets to keep traffic flowing during underground construction, but crews will start dismantling them in January.
The Transportation Ministry says crews need to cover the roof of the new Mount Pleasant station in soil, then repave the street, requiring a detour.
It says traffic will be diverted around the block and return to the section of Broadway with one lane in each direction after about four months.
