BISMARCK, ND (KXNET) — A Watford City man has pleaded guilty to seven charges tied to a violent assault that happened earlier this year, ending with a SWAT standoff.
Craig Brian Chavez, 37, initially pled not guilty, but on October 23, he changed his plea to guilty on charges of aggravated assault, preventing arrest, interfering with a 911 call, criminal mischief, and multiple counts of terrorizing.
The charges stem from an incident around 2 a.m. on Feb. 28 in the 100 block of 5th Street SE in Watford City.
Police say Chavez broke into an apartment, beat a woman with his hands and a belt, and threatened to kill her, while claiming he had a gun. Two children were inside the apartment at the time and escaped with the victim before officers arrived.
