Shoppers at the Costco opening next week in Silver Spring Township won’t find wine or beer for sale.

The Seattle-based chain sells alcohol in other states but hasn’t pursued booze sales in Pennsylvania until now.

But, according to the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board database, Costco is joining the ranks of other major retailers in the state, including BJ’s Wholesale, in carrying wine and beer.

The big-box chain has a restaurant license under review in Cranberry Township, Butler County, for its existing store at 1050 Cranberry Square Drive.

The license is similar to the ones chains such as Wawa, Giant, Wegmans and Sheetz have acquired. The licenses require cafe seating and separate cash registers and allow retailers to sell wine and beer.
