The wallets of Australian are getting fatter, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS).

New data released on Thursday revealed the highest earning sectors and states, and a tiny shrink in the gender pay gap.

The average weekly earnings for full-time adults in May this year was $2010 — a new record for adult Australians.

“This is the first time that average weekly ordinary time earnings for full-time adults have been greater than $2000,” ABS head of labour statistics Sean Crick said on Thursday.

That is an increase of 1.7 per cent in the six months to May.

The figure rose in tandem with the Wage Price Index (WPI) which saw an uptick of 1.8 per cent in the same timeframe.

Over the last year, the average annual wage has gone up by about $4503.
