MASON COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) - Flashing red, white, and blue lights behind you is not an ideal wake-up call on your drive to a school drop off or work.
“It’s not worth losing your life for being a couple minutes late,” Mason County Sheriff Cory Miller said.
After various complaints from the community, Miller said he has directed extra patrols along state Route 2 and school zones to catch speeders.
“The traffic has probably quadrupled, if not more, with the contractors and the work traffic in the morning,” Miller said.
He said deputies made more than 20 traffic stops, issuing 19 citations for speeds between 60 to 80 mph in 40 mph zones Friday morning along Route 2 --specifically Huntington Road.
“We’re just out here trying to slow things down so people can get to work safe,” Miller said.
