DELTA TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WLNS) -- As SNAP recipients brace for a pause in November benefits, local groups are moving to fill the gap.
The Delta Township District Library offers a little free food pantry at its entrance and a separate hygeine and first aid pantry. Inside, a small fridge holds produce and dairy. On request, grab-and-go meal kits are available whenever the library is open.
Rebecca Campbell, the library's community relations coordinator, said awareness matters.
“We do hand out about 60 kits per week during Tuesday nights, they're very important to a lot of families and they definitely help support against the food crisis,” Campbell said.
Luke Shaefer, a University of Michigan professor of public policy and director of Poverty Solutions, said a pause could have broad effects.
