2025 is mostly an off year for politics. However, races in two states are being closely watched for clues about next year’s all-important congressional elections.

Virginia and New Jersey are now taking center stage as the campaigns for governor heat up. Both states typically vote for Democrats in presidential elections, but gubernatorial races are another matter.

Democratic National Committee Chairman Ken Martin said he's optimistic.

“What we’re seeing on the ground is giving me great reason for optimism that both in New Jersey that Mikie Sherrill will be the next governor and, in Virginia, Abigail Spanberger will win there as well,” he said.
