Joseph Woll is coming back to the Maple Leafs.

The goaltender who requested personal leave a week before the season opened, will return to the club and via a Friday afternoon announcement by the Leafs “will resume team activities and on-ice participation as part of the return-to-play-process.”

That’s great news if the well-liked 26-year-old netminder has worked through whatever issues had kept him at home in the suburbs of St. Louis, but it leaves Toronto management with something of a goaltending backlog to settle.

Not knowing when Woll would be back, the club claimed Cayden Primeau on waivers from the Carolina Hurricanes. Primeau has played one game for the Leafs, stopping 26 of 30 shots in a 7-4 home win over Nashville and is likely in for Saturday’s conclusion of a home and home
