A judge warned Ben Edward Maize that his charges are serious and suggested he contact legal aid
The suspect accused of tunnelling his way into a neighbour’s apartment insisted Friday he wishes to go to trial without a lawyer.
Despite repeated suggestions by Justice John Bascom that he’d be better off with counsel, Ben Edward Maize said he would act for himself when his case goes to trial in January.

But the Calgary Court of Justice judge did give Maize one more chance to reconsider, having his case brought back to court one more time in December to clarify the accused’s position.
Maize, who appeared in court with two black eyes and an arm in a sling, injuries he says were the result of a Calgary Remand Centre beating, was more concerned about getting more disclosure
