MINNEAPOLIS — The Wadena-Deer Creek boys and girls cross-country teams advanced to state Thursday, Oct. 23, but Anna Fiemeyer and Kaylee Endres may have felt they were running a marathon Friday, Oct. 24.

The WDC doubles team battled through a three-set consolation semifinal match, only to grind through a three-set, two-tie-breaker consolation final during the Class 1A State Individual Tournament at the Reed-Sweatt Tennis Center.

In the end, the Endres-Fiemeyer team couldn’t match last year’s magic as they finished sixth with a 6-7 (6), 7-6 (5), 1-0 (4) loss to Thief River Falls’ Piper Greene and Braylee Wienen.
