SALT LAKE CITY – Eastbound lanes of State Route 201 were closed Friday morning after a dump truck hit a bridge structure, the Utah Highway Patrol said.
The dump truck was reportedly traveling east on the highway with its dump bed raised when it struck the I-215 West Southbound bridge structure, Sgt. Mike Alexander with the UHP said.
The dump bed reportedly detached from the dump truck and was still on some lanes of the highway at the time of publication.
UHP said traffic was diverted to I-215 until the roadway was cleared. Eastbound lanes were reopened at approximately noon Friday, according to a post on X by the Utah Department of Transportation.
“We have no reason to believe the bridge structure is compromised at this time, but UDOT is responding to assess,” Alexander said.
