(FOX40.COM) — A local nonprofit in West Sacramento is turning tragedy into purpose. A Vision at Hope Foundation, also known as the AVAH Foundation announced the first group of students receiving scholarships to promote youth mental health at River City High School.
The foundation was created in memory of Avah McClellan, a River City High student who lost her life to suicide. Her father, Isaac McClellan, and community partners including Sutter Health say the goal is to support “kids left in the shadows” through peer-led projects that create safe spaces and connections.
“I’m feeling grateful and very excited for what I’m going to do with this opportunity,” said Aliana Treasure Collins, who received the foundation’s $10,000 scholarship. “I’m here to give the word out that there is hope and
