INDIANAPOLIS — A Carmel native is the newest "Jeopardy!" champion.
Shaan Mishra, a management consultant, rallied in the Double Jeopardy! round of Friday's show to put himself in position to win the game. He collected $2,600 in the Jeopardy! round, sitting third place behind defending champion Tom Devlin ($9,000) and Kristina Pohribnij ($4,400).
Mishra found one of the Daily Doubles in the next round, turning $7,800 into $12,800 with a correct response.
Heading into Final Jeopardy! Mishra trailed Devlin by $7,200, but was the only contestant to provide the correct question to the clue "Missionary William Ellis reported in 1825 that his "bones were preserved...& were considered sacred by the people" of Hawaii. Mishra didn't wager anything, but when Devlin's incorrect response and $8,401
