CORVALLIS, ORE. - The looming closure of Letitia Carson Elementary and Cheldelin Middle School has sparked concerns among families in Corvallis. The Corvallis School District aims to address a $4 million deficit, initially proposing to close the middle school but later including Letitia Carson after community feedback.

"We have plans for where those students would move geographically to other elementary schools that are nearby," said a Melissa Harder, the assistant superintendent for Corvallis School District.

Letitia Carson's closure would redirect around 45 percent of its students to Bessie Coleman Elementary, bringing the total enrollment to nearly 500 for kindergarten through sixth grade. Many families feel the decision unfairly targets lower-income areas.
