WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Bernie Moreno jousted with Colombian President Gustavo Petro on social media Friday after the Treasury Department imposed sanctions on Petro, claiming he aided international drug trafficking.
The Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) imposed sanctions on Petro, his wife Veronica del Socorro Alcocer Garcia, his son Nicolas Fernando Petro Burgos, and Colombian Interior Minister Armando Alberto Benedetti pursuant to counternarcotics-related authorities.
The sanctions block their access to any property they might have in the United States or in the possession or control of U.S. persons. They also serve to prohibit U.S. persons and entities from engaging in any transactions that involve the sanctioned individuals’ property or interests.
