Beijing has fired up again following a tense encounter between Australian and Chinese air forces over the South China Sea.

China ‘s Defence Ministry has accused Canberra of distorting the facts after Australia protested a Chinese fighter jet’s release of flares close to an Australian military aircraft on Sunday.

“The Australian statement turns facts on their head, falsely accusing China in an attempt to cover up the egregious act of its military aircraft illegally intruding into Chinese airspace,” ministry spokesperson Senior Colonel Jiang Bin said on Wednesday.

“We express strong dissatisfaction and have lodged stern representations with the Australian side.”
