San Francisco Chinatown’s first cultural center, which is one of the nation’s oldest Asian American arts centers, is commemorating 60 years of creative activism with a weeklong birthday celebration.
The Chinese Culture Center of San Francisco is marking the milestone with a series of public events in its first permanent headquarters that will acknowledge 60 years’ worth of artistic achievements that have championed the neighborhood and its residents.
“The 60th anniversary is a moment to recognize the relevance of Asian American identity and culture, its contributions to the U.S. and its roots in the most historic Chinatown in the country,” said Jenny Leung, the nonprofit’s executive director.
At Saturday’s costume party, guests will get their first look at the organization’s new head
