Five people were shot and wounded Friday night near the Howard University campus in Northwest Washington, apparently after a campus homecoming event, according to D.C. Police Chief Pamela A. Smith.

None of the wounds appeared to be life-threatening, and none of those wounded — four adults and a juvenile — was a Howard student, she said.

Two people were taken into custody, and three guns were seized, the chief said.
