North Dakota has been called the Flickertail State. Flickertails are ground squirrels, commonly called gophers, and are often seen along roads or fields. At the first sign of danger, they flee into their holes to wait until the danger passes. Is there a better comparison to the behavior of our own Sen. Hoeven?

Hoeven is good at showing up for photo ops and announcements but scampers at the danger of answering questions facing the people of our state: the impact of tariffs on farmers; the loss of rural hospitals through Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill;” continued inflation and high prices that were to be “fixed on day one;” why Republicans provide cover for Trump as he shelters pedophiles; and why we have a government shutdown when the Republicans control the White House and bo
