LAS VEGAS ( FOX5 ) — As the government shutdown drags on with no end in sight, Las Vegas Valley nonprofits are bracing for a bigger need for help across the valley.
Friday, FOX5 stopped by Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada to see what they’re dealing with right now. Leaders tell us they’re worried about a potential pause in SNAP benefits if the shutdown goes into November.
They say they have seen an increase in demand for their food pantry over the past three weeks.
“We’re actually seeing a 15% increase in families needing help. And just to put that into perspective, every single day right here in our food pantry, 150 people come in to shop for their groceries. What we’re starting to see now is that it’s about 300 people a day,” said Sara Ramirez, president and CEO of Catholic Cha
