A truck driver was shot by law enforcement after attempting to back his vehicle into a police checkpoint outside a Coast Guard base.

On Thursday night, hours after protests against plans to move roughly 100 federal agents to Coast Guard Base Alameda outside San Francisco, California, a U-Haul attempted to back into a police checkpoint guarding the entrance. A statement from the Department of Homeland Security said the incident began at around 10 p.m., when security personnel “observed a vehicle driving erratically and attempting to weaponize the vehicle to ram into Coast Guard Base Alameda.”
