ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — “Stabbings are not something that happen at breakfast," Rev. Matt Marino, rector of Trinity Parish in St. Augustine, said. "They’re not something that happen in St. Augustine. They’re not something that happen with a stranger, so the whole thing is like the trifecta of really bizarre."

One year after a knife attack nearly took his life, Marino is sharing his story of faith, healing and forgiveness.

It was Oct. 23, 2024, when Marino sat down for breakfast with a friend on San Marco Avenue. A stranger walked by, muttered she “had a lot of problems,” and within seconds leaned in and stabbed him in the chest.

“It went in really far,” Marino recalled. “I kind of looked down and said, ‘Hey, you just stabbed me.’ Then her face completely changed.”
