ALOHA Ore. (KPTV) - More than 750,000 Oregonians may lose access to SNAP or EBT benefits next month due to the government shutdown , but neighbors in Aloha are working to keep their community fed.

Jason Ratten, co-owner of 185th Produce on the corner of TV Highway and Southwest 185th Avenue, said the idea for their mutual aid program came after speaking with customers who were interested in helping their neighbors.

At 185th Produce, customers can donate money to help cover other people’s food purchases.

People who need help can fill out a form on the market’s Facebook page. The store will then draw names and contact people as funds become available. Those people will receive up to $15 in store credit.
