Synopsis: Kerala’s Left Democratic Front has been thrown into turmoil after the State government signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Centre to implement the PM SHRI scheme, despite long-standing Left opposition to the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which is mandatory under the scheme. While the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has defended the move as a pragmatic step to unlock frozen central funds, the Communist Party of India, the second-largest partner in the coalition, has condemned it as a breach of coalition norms.
