Alima, the Montreal-based dietary dispensary, just finished its annual assessment of the cost of the of an average nutritious and economical food basket, and according to them, it takes almost $300 a week for a family of four to eat healthy in Montreal.
According to Julie Paquette, general director of Alima, the assessment shows a 33% rise in food costs from 2021 to 2025 for the same grocery basket—an increase she says is hitting many Montreal families hard.
“Around $300 to $400,” replied a Montrealer when questioned on how much she has to spend every week to feed her family of three.
“Now $100 doesn’t bring much, in the past for $200 we had a full basket,” she added.
