GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - People in Gainesville are honoring the legacy of Wes Skiles, the diver and conservationist from North Central Florida who advanced the art of underwater cinematography.

On Friday, members of the Rotary Club hosted the 13th annual “Wes Skiles Water Stewardship Awards” at the Cade Museum.

The money raised by this event will be used for clean water projects.

Officials awarded activists and Florida organizations for their conservation efforts.

Skiles died during an underwater dive in 2010, but his brother says his legacy will live on by funding clean water projects around the world.
