BEMIDJI — There was a collective sigh of relief when Oliver Peer regained control of the puck in front of a yawning net in overtime.

For three periods and change, the Bemidji State men’s hockey team had put forth its best game in weeks, with nothing to show for it except for a handful of empty chances and a promising defensive effort.

Then, when Augustana pressured sophomore defenseman Hudson Thornton on the BSU blue line in 3-on-3 overtime, he spurred senior forward Adam Flammang on a 2-on-1 rush with Peer, a junior.

Flammang tied to feed Peer for a one-time shot. The puck hit Augie defender Hayden Hennen in the skate, then trickled to the far post to the left of goaltender Josh Kotai. Flammang regained the puck, then turned and found Peer on the back door.
