WACO, Texas (KFDA) - The Canyon Eagles tennis team fell 10-5 to Wimberley in the UIL Class 4A state championship at the Hurd Tennis Center on the campus of Baylor University on Thursday.
The Eagles reached the state tournament for the first time since 2018 after defeating Texarkana Pleasant Grove 10-0 in Wednesday’s semifinals, entering the championship match with a 24-game winning streak.
Early doubles action sets tone
Canyon picked up an early win in mixed doubles as Lawson Posey and Liliana Veneklasen won 6-1, 6-4. However, Wimberley responded with straight-set victories at number three boys’ doubles and number one and two girls’.
