Padel is Britain’s fastest growing sport. It’s easy to pick up, it’s simple to play and it looks a lot like tennis. That’s why 73,000 people tried padel for the first time in August alone.
And the chances are a good few of them became obsessed.
But with love comes pain, in this case specifically in the elbow – and a familiar but subtly different injury is starting to rise along with the explosion of padel players .
“People fall in love with the sport, because there is a lower barrier to entry compared to tennis,” says Wesley Teixeira, a physiotherapist at the Queen’s Club who runs a clinic there.
“Tennis, if you never played before, you need a few lessons otherwise you can’t get the ball over the net, you can’t serve properly. Padel is much easier .”
