Cricket Australia boss Todd Greenberg says it is “realistic” to think Virat Kohli could one day follow Ravichandran Ashwin to the Big Bash, but it will likely depend on the league’s privatisation.
Saturday’s ODI at the SCG is expected to mark Kohli’s last international match in Australia, with the India megastar having already retired from Test and T20 cricket.
Ashwin will this summer become the first Indian player to feature in the BBL, after signing a full-season deal with Sydney Thunder.
His arrival comes as Cricket Australia weighs up whether to allow private investment into the league and its teams, potentially bringing more money to the competition.
