PORTLAND — Deni Avdija had 26 points and six assists, and the Portland Trail Blazers beat the Golden State Warriors 139-119 on Friday night in Tiago Splitter’s first game as interim head coach.

Splitter is stepping in after coach Chauncey Billups was arrested by the FBI early Thursday and arraigned in federal court later that day.

The mood was somber in the Blazers’ locker room before Friday game. Few players wanted to talk.

Splitter told reporters before the game he wanted to keep his team focused on basketball.

“Not great, not great. But like I said, we’ve got to move forward, we’ve a job to do,” Splitter said. “We have a great opportunity in front of us to have a good season with this team and I’m excited about that.”

Splitter, 40, joined Billups’ staff in June. A 6-foot-11 center
