All eyes were on Shohei Ohtani as he entered Rogers Center for Game 1 of the World Series. The Japanese superstar, who nearly joined the Toronto Blue Jays last offseason before signing with the Los Angeles Dodgers, was met with loud boos. The moment his name was announced in the starting lineup, Blue Jays fans erupted.

For Blue Jays fans, it was a chance to get back at Ohtani for picking the Dodgers over them. From the very first pitch, every Shohei Ohtani appearance at the plate was greeted with jeers. However, things escalated as the game progressed.

When the Blue Jays blew the game open to take an 11-2 lead, Rogers Center had turned into a party. As Ohtani came up for his final at-bat in the ninth inning, the crowd broke into a deafening chant, “We don’t need you!”
