CHINO HILLS — Even though Chino Hills built a 14-point third-quarter lead, the Huskies knew Damien wouldn’t go down easily.
Damien didn’t.
But when Damien’s offense rallied, Chino Hills’ offense answered and the Huskies held on for a 27-19 win on Friday night in a Baseline League showdown.
The victory kept Chino Hills (7-2 overall, 4-0 in league) alive for an outright league title, and the Huskies will play at Rancho Cucamonga (6-3, 4-0) next week. Damien dropped to 7-2, 2-2.
“Going into the week, Coach (James) Stewart and Damien have always been a tough opponent for us,” Chino Hills coach Keland Johnson said. “I believe it’s a statement win for us for the season. I think for the first time we played a legitimate all four quarters and all three phases of the game.”
