MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Students at Memphis Business Academy joined a nationwide effort Thursday to take a stand against gun violence.

As part of the Day of National Concern about Young People and Gun Violence, students took a pledge promising not to play with guns, not to show them to friends, and to speak up if they ever see one.

Before taking the pledge, the school’s principal asked how many students knew someone who owned a gun and how many knew someone who had been shot. Nearly every hand in the room went up, a stark reminder of how closely gun violence touches young people in Memphis.
