For years, large and mid-size cities like New Orleans have been some of the most affordable options for adults looking to live out their "Sex and the City" fantasies of renting an apartment in the big city.

The Economist, however, found that dreams of sipping cosmos with your girlfriends all night and coming back to your studio apartment may be fading in the Crescent City.

The news organization published its third annual " Carrie Bradshaw index ," which measures how affordable 100 major cities are by comparing each city's median wage to the median wage needed to afford a studio apartment rental in that city.

The measure of affordability is based on the general rule that a tenant should not spend more than 30% of their gross income on rent, The Economist wrote.
