The Election Commission will start the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list across the country from next week. It will begin in 10-15 states. The SIR will be conducted first in those states where assembly elections are due in the next year. Assembly elections are due in Assam, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala, and West Bengal in 2026.
An Election Commission official said that SIR will not be conducted currently in states where local body elections are due. The reason is that staff at the lower level will be busy with those elections and will not be able to spare time for SIR, meanwhile SIR will be conducted in these states after the elections.
