SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Saturday is National Prescription Drug Take Back Day across western Massachusetts, and several communities will be hosting events throughout the day.
Prescription Take Back events give residents a chance to safely get rid of drugs that they are no longer using and don’t need. This event encourages the community to clean out their medicine cabinets and drop off prescription or over-the-counter drugs for humans or pets. This is part of an effort to save lives by preventing misuse or accidental ingestion.
The Hampden District Attorney's Office states that Take Back Days have removed 19.2 million pounds of unused medications from communities across the country, including nearly 650,000 pounds in Massachusetts.
