FARGO — North Dakota State quarterback Cam Miller ended five games of frustration against South Dakota State last season by finally beating the Jackrabbits, first in the Dakota Marker regular-season game and again in the Division I FCS semifinals. On Saturday, Cole Payton will get his first shot as the starter.
“It’s an honor,” he said. “Heck of an opportunity to showcase what we’ve been working for.”
Miller was 0-5 in four starts and one appearance before last season’s 13-9 win in October at Gate City Bank Field at the Fargodome. Payton, heading into the 7 p.m. Marker kickoff at Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium, hasn’t exactly been frustrating-free against the Jackrabbits.
He threw an interception in this game in 2022. His season ended last year when he hurt his shoulder against the Jacks.
