With a tax sale looming for the sprawling property next to Beasley Park, developer Harry Stinson’s longtime ambition to transform Hamilton’s Cannon Knitting Mills into condos is more uncertain than ever.

The deadline for would-be buyers to submit bids for 134 Cannon St. E. is Nov. 11, but Stinson says he aims to prevent someone else from scooping up the red-brick complex that dates to 1854 before then.

“Yes, we have recourse. Yes, we will be responding. No, it’s not the end,” he told The Spectator in a brief email Friday without going into detail.

But given frustration over the delayed project and local residents’ concerns over fire hazards, break-ins and pests linked to the buildings, Coun. Cameron Kroetsch says he looks forward to a new chapter for the storied property.
