CHICO, Calif. - Jerry Brayton, a beloved figure in the Chico community, recently retired after dedicating 24 years to teaching tennis through the Chico Area Recreation and Park District (CARD).
Brayton's family first settled in Chico in 1913, eventually opening several local businesses. For Brayton, tennis became his passion, and he spent over two decades shaping future generations of players.
"I retired a couple months ago, now that I'm retired, an age related situation. I still play a bit of tennis. I help out around the house," Brayton said. "To make a program work for 24 years, which is the best for what they do in Chico. I have so much to thank them for."
His time as an instructor left Brayton with countless stories, some of which he fondly shared. "It had to do with tiny tennis,
