LOUISVILLE, Ky. — With mermaids, a giant pinata and the Easter Bunny itself, the 31st annual Avenue Easter Parade drew thousands of spectators Saturday in Louisville.

“We wanted it big; we didn't think it was going to be this big,” said Ruth Ramirez, parade participant and director of Ballet Folkorico Arte Mex.

Families in Ballet Folklorico Arte Mex spent about a week building its massive float.

“To actually be a part of it and collaborate with our community and bring some of this joy and color to the community, we're just happy to be a part of it,” Ramirez said.

As diverse as the parade was with culture, participants varied from young children to a 94-year-old.

“Well, in my brain, I think I’m 22,” said Joseph Batcheldor, first-time parade participant.
