Srinagar MP Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi on Saturday refused to campaign for the National Conference (NC) candidate in the Budgam Assembly by-election, citing the party’s failure to uphold the mandate given by the people.
“The people of Jammu and Kashmir gave a strong majority to a single party. Within a year, that mandate was not respected. This is why people will ask questions,” he said, adding that citizens would look for alternatives if public trust continues to be ignored.
On Rajya Sabha elections, Mehdi said, “I do not know who voted or cross-voted. The Chief Minister may know, but he refuses to reveal names. This is not private property, it is public trust”.
