Two people were killed and several others were critically wounded in a mass shooting at a large weekend party in the US's North Carolina on Saturday, a sheriff said.
Homicide investigators and rescuers responded to the incident in a rural area outside Maxton, which is about 150 kilometres southwest of Raleigh near the South Carolina border. In a statement, Robeson County Sheriff Burnis Wilkins's office said 13 people were shot.
"There is no current threat to the community as this appears to have been an isolated incident," the statement said.
The sheriff's office said that over 150 people fled the spot before law enforcement officers arrived. Anyone with information about what happened or who was at the scene should contact sheriff's investigators, the statement read.
