In a major pro-people decision, the Odisha Cabinet on Saturday approved an outlay of Rs 512 crore for the continuation of the state’s flagship ‘Aahaar’ scheme for the next five financial years — from 2025-26 to 2029-30.
The move aims to ensure uninterrupted service of providing subsidised cooked meals at just Rs 5 to the needy across the state.
Under the new approval, the cost per meal has been enhanced from Rs 23 to Rs 27, reflecting the rise in food and operational costs. However, the beneficiary contribution remains unchanged at Rs 5, ensuring continued affordability for the poor and vulnerable sections.
The government subsidy per meal has been increased from Rs 18 to Rs 22, reaffirming the state’s commitment to support food security and the welfare of the underprivileged.
