CHAPEL HILL — UNC football lost 17-16 in overtime against No. 16 Virginia at Kenan Stadium.

The Tar Heels scored on their OT possession and opted to go for the two-point conversion, but Benjamin Hall was stopped short of the goal line as he reached for the pylon. UNC's defense created havoc with six sacks and limited Virginia's offense, which entered the game averaging 40 points, to a season-low 17 points.

But UNC had two turnovers in the red zone and couldn't sustain drives in the second half to pull off the upset.

The Tar Heels got a goal-line stop in the third quarter and a takeaway, but a second turnover in the red zone prevented UNC from a chance at taking the lead before the start of the final period.
