ROBESON COUNTY, N.C. — A mass shooting early Saturday at an outdoor Halloween party in Robeson County left two people dead and 13 others injured after a dispute broke out between two groups, Sheriff Burnis Wilkins told WBTW News13, according to CBS affiliate WNCN.
The shooting happened at a large gathering of about 300 people near Dixon and McGirt Gin roads outside Maxton. Deputies said more than 150 people fled before law enforcement arrived.
“When the deputies arrived and even before they arrived, they were being notified that there were several people shot here,” Wilkins said. “As they were arriving, some of the people that were shot were arriving at hospitals both in Lumberton and Scotland County.”
